A Clause is a group of words that have a Subject and a Predicate.
Most sentences you see are clauses.
He ran to the store.
The monkey flew into the sky.
The bandit jumped onto the troll’s back.
There are two different types of Clauses
INDEPENDENT CLAUSES and DEPENDENT CLAUSES
What is a PHRASE?
A Phrase is a group of words that lack a subject, predicate, or both and that functions as a part of speech such as a noun, preposition, adjective, or adverb.
Screaming like a banshee - This is missing a subject
The tallest man – This is missing a predicate
After midnight – This is missing both a subject and a predicate
What is a Fragment?
A Fragment is a group of words that lacks a subject, predicate, or both and is punctuated at the end in order to pass it off as a complete sentence.
Over the house. - See, in this example, the writer is trying to pass this off as a complete sentence.
His big toe.
Running through the grass.
