QUOTATION MARKS are used to SET OFF DIALOGUE (speech)
Here is a couple rules for using QUOTATION MARKS.
Periods, Commas, Question Marks, Exclamation Points go INSIDE THE QUOTATION MARKS.
“I shouldn’t have eaten those strawberries,” though Jonathan.
“We’re losing speed!“ screamed the captain.
“Who goes there?“ said the sentry.
Colons, and Semi-Colons go outside the QUOTATION MARKS.
