A PARTICIPLE is a TYPE OF VERBAL.
A VERBAL is a VERB acting like another PART OF SPEECH.

A Participle is a VERB acting like an ADJECTIVE and modifies a NOUN or PRONOUN.
There are 2 types of PARTICIPLES
Past Participles – end in “ed” “en” “d” “t” or “n”
Present Participles – end in “ing”
EXAMPLES
The broken drum leaned against the dumster. (broken is modifying the noun – drum)
Shaken, he stumbled from the wrecked car. (shaken modifies the pronoun – he AND wrecked modifies the noun – car)
The burning log fell off the fire. (burning is modifying the noun – log)
