VERB – It’s what you do.
A Verb is an action word and is the first part of speech you should understand.
It expresses action or states of being.
EXAMPLES
VERB AS AN ACTION
Godzilla gobbled up the tourists.
Jackie flipped the raft.
Waldo and McKenzie made African bracelets.
In the sentences above, the subject is completing an action.
VERB AS A STATE OF BEING
Godzilla is scary!
The students are hungry.
The vase was fragile.
I am an astronaut.
In these sentences, the subjects are not doing anything, they are in a state of being.

What is a Regular Verb?
A Regular verb is a verb that you can add the suffix -ed to when you want to make it past tense
EXAMPLE
Jump = Jumped
Talk = Talked
Ski = Skied

An Irregular Verb is a verb that you do not add the suffix -ed to when you make it past tense
EXAMPLE
Think = Thought

What is an Auxiliary (or helping) Verb?
An Auxiliary Verb is a verb a form BE, DO, and HAVE
Forms of BE = AM, ARE, WAS, WERE, BE, BEEN, BEING
Forms of DO = DO, DOES, DID, DONE, DOING
Forms of HAVE = HAVE, HAS, HAD, HAVING
There are also MODAL AUXILIARY VERBS
CAN, COULD, MAY, MIGHT, SHALL, SHOULD, WILL, WOULD, MUST, OUGHT TO
What are the Principal Parts of a Verb?
There are 3 Principal Parts to EVERY verb.
#1 = Present Form
#2 = Past Form
#3 = Past Participle Form

Give – Gave – Given
Steal – Stole – Stolen
Arise – Arose – Arisen
Sometimes the Past and Past Participle Form are the same
