An ADJECTIVE is a NOUN MODIFIER.
It helps make NOUNS more interesting.
Adjectives are only found in two places within a sentence:
#1 – Right before a NOUN
EXAMPLE
The juicy apple fell from the tall tree.
The rabid dog chased the tiny mouse over the white fence.
#2 – After a linking verb (complementing a NOUN)
EXAMPLE
The juicy apple was delicious.
Al Pacino is a genius.
What are the different types of ADJECTIVES?
There are 6 different types of ADJECTIVES.
#1 – Descriptive – These are the adjectives that describe a noun and come right before a noun.
EXAMPLE
The red fence.
The tired man.
#2 – Limiting (ARTICLES) – These are also known as ARTICLES - A , AN , THE
EXAMPLE
The man walked away.
A bird flew into the sky.
An apple rolled into the street.
#3 – Pronominal – These are the PRONOUNS that are acting like ADJECTIVES
This – Which – Whatever – What
EXAMPLE
Which film is yours?
This book is ruined!
#4 – Possessive – These are also PRONOUNS acting like ADJECTIVES because they are showing ownership.
EXAMPLE
Those are her shoes.
His socks are smelly.
My kids lost my glasses.
#5 – Proper – The adjective part of a PROPER NOUN
EXAMPLE
I love Mexican food.
She listens to Arabic music.
The captain is Canadian.
#6 – Predicate – The adjective that complements the subject. It will appear in the predicate portion of the sentence after a linking verb.
EXAMPLE
The firefighter is brave.
The toaster is broken.
I am tired.
They were disloyal.
